Winners of the 2018 Presidential Prize in Science and Innovation for Young Scientists announced

Vladimir Putin signed Executive Order On the 2018 Presidential Prize in Science and Innovation for Young Scientists.

Established in 2008, the annual prize will be awarded to young scientists and professionals for the tenth time this year. The prize is awarded for contribution to advancing Russian science, for creating new equipment and technology that can boost the innovative development of the economy and social sphere, as well as for strengthening national defence.

The winners were announced at a special briefing by Presidential Aide Andrei Fursenko.

Vladimir Putin analysed the recommendations of the Presidential Council for Science and Education and decided that the 2018 Presidential Prize in Science and Innovation for Young Scientists and the honorary title of prize-winner shall be awarded to the following individuals:

Yevgeny Gorlov and Viktor Zharkov, for the development and use of lidar technology for the remote detection of explosives. Both are Candidates of Sciences (Physics and Mathematics) and are research associates at the Zuyev Institute of Atmospheric Optics of the Siberian Branch of the Russian Academy of Sciences.

Yekaterina Grizanova, for discovering previously unknown mechanisms of agriculture and forest insect pest resistance to bioinsecticides based on Bacillus thuringiensis. She is a lead researcher at Novosibirsk State Agrarian University, Candidate of Sciences (Biology).

Vyacheslav Dyachuk, for discovering previously unknown mechanisms underlying the development of invertebrate and vertebrate nervous systems. He is a senior researcher at the Zhirmunsky National Scientific Centre for Marine Biology, Far Eastern Branch of the Russian Academy of Sciences, Candidate of Sciences (Biology).

Ivan Oseledets, for creating breakthrough computing technologies for solving multidimensional problems in physics, chemistry, biology and data analysis based on tensor expansion. He is an Associate Professor at the Skolkovo Institute of Science and Technology, Candidate of Sciences (Physics and Mathematics).
