The message reads, in part:
“An outstanding scientist and brilliant representative of the legendary constellation of chief designers, Genrikh Novozhilov devoted his life to serving the Fatherland. During his years of selfless creative work, he made an invaluable contribution to strengthening Russia’s defensive and technological might, the development of modern aviation, and the creation of advanced aircraft of the famous Il family.
The cherished memory of this remarkable man and patriot will live on in the hearts of his family and friends, colleagues, and students. In all our hearts.”
Genrikh Novozhilov, two-time Hero of Socialist Labour, Doctor of Technical Sciences and Professor, designed the Il-76 heavy military transport aircraft, Il-96 wide-body passenger aircraft, and Il-114 twin-engine turboprop aircraft.
Genrikh Novozhilov died on Sunday at the age of 93.
