A schedule of upcoming contacts in various formats was outlined. Emmanuel Macron thanked Vladimir Putin for the invitation to take part in the celebrations marking the 75th anniversary of Victory in the Great Patriotic War in Moscow on May 9, 2020.
The two leaders discussed the situation following the US withdrawal from the Joint Comprehensive Plan of Action (JCPOA). Both parties stressed that JCPOA was an important factor which promotes security in the Middle East as well as upholds the nuclear non-proliferation regime. They noted that it was expedient to consolidate the efforts of all the states interested in preserving JCPOA.
When discussing the developments in Syria, the two leaders emphasised the critical importance of achieving a political settlement and overcoming the consequences of the military conflict.
During the conversation, prospects for settlement of Ukraine’s internal conflict were analysed. The two leaders expressed their readiness to step up joint work in this area, including within the Normandy format.
