This was the assessment Dmitry Medvedev made at the Government Cabinet’s final meeting of the year.
The President noted that the Government succeeded above all in maintaining social stability and harmony in the country. The main social commitments were met in full, and the Government was also successful in its efforts to support industry – particular enterprises and whole sectors. The Government kept the financial sector stable, prevented sharp devaluation of the ruble, and held banking and lending mechanisms in balance.
Mr Medvedev thanked Prime Minister Vladimir Putin separately for his hard work over the entire year. Without his personal contribution the situation could have looked rather different, the President said.
Mr Medvedev described the outgoing year as the most difficult in the last 12 years. Next year, it will be important to keep close watch on the general economic situation and macroeconomic indicators, and work on an exit strategy from the crisis, while providing continued support to sectors and enterprises in need, the President said.
