The Russian President and the German Chancellor exchanged opinions on the energy dialogue, energy security and energy saving when discussing the successful completion of the EU-Russia summit, which launched the talks on a basic agreement with the European Union.
The two leaders pointed to progress in implementing major economic projects.
In reply to Ms Merkel’s questions about developments in the post-Soviet countries, Mr Medvedev spoke about his meeting with Georgian President Mikheil Saakashvili, saying that Russia wanted to defuse tensions with Georgia.
Mr Medvedev and Ms Merkel also discussed the schedule for upcoming political contacts. Their next meeting as part of interstate consultations will be held in October, possibly in St Petersburg.
