In a telephone call from the scene, the Minister for Civil Defence, Emergencies and Natural Disaster Relief and the Governor of the Kurgan Region informed the President about firefighting efforts, potential hazards and measures to protect local residents, their property and other facilities.
On May 7, large-scale wildfires spread across several towns in the Kurgan Region. A state of emergency was introduced in the region. Extinguishing the fires has been challenging due to strong winds and unusually hot weather.
