The message reads, in part:
“Your fertile land has for centuries played an important role in this country’s development and in strengthening the Russian statehood. A number of special and heroic pages in its history are linked with the Great Patriotic War. People from different ethnic groups fought here shoulder to shoulder, displaying bravery and unparalleled courage. The Red Army’s massive breakthrough of the Mius fortified positions and the fierce fighting for the liberation of cities and communities in the Don area will forever remain in Russia’ martial annals and in people’s memory. It is highly symbolic that Rostov-on-Don and Taganrog proudly bear the honorary title of City of Military Glory.
We will always revere the memory and self-sacrifice of those who brought the Great Victory closer on the Don soil. On this commemorative day, the warmest words of recognition and respect must be addressed to our war veterans. Residents of the Rostov Region are performing their duty in the course of the special military operation in the same worthy manner as they did in the past, while adding to the traditions of patriotism and cohesion bequeathed to us by our grandfathers and great-grandfathers.”
