Archbishop of Korea Theophanes (Kim) informed the President of Russia about the construction of the church and performed a brief divine service.
The President of Russia gifted the church a Holy Trinity Icon.
The construction of the first Orthodox church in the capital of the DPRK was initiated by personal order of Kim Jong Il after his visit to the Church of St Innocent of Irkutsk in Khabarovsk in 2002. The church was erected in 2006 and was consecrated by Metropolitan Kirill of Smolensk and Kaliningrad, now the Patriarch of Moscow and All Russia. During his visit, Metropolitan Kirill consecrated priests who graduated from the Moscow Theological Seminary: deacons Feodor Kim and John Ra.
