The message reads, in part:
“It is only symbolic that the National Children’s Book Week is opening in the Pillar Hall of the House of Unions in the year that marks the 80th Anniversary of the Great Victory and has been declared the Year of the Defender of the Fatherland. Back in 1943, when the Great Patriotic War battles were still thundering, the legendary Book Day – the first major meeting between renowned children’s authors and young book enthusiasts – was held. At the event, the kids received gifts of immeasurable value: wonderful books that helped them navigate challenges and loss, stay strong, keep their dreams alive, and strengthen their belief in the victory. It is gratifying that this moment also marked the beginning of the cherished tradition of the annual children’s book festival.
Today, Moscow is once again warmly welcoming writers, librarians, teachers, publishers, artists, and translators from all across the country – those who make extensive contribution to creating and promoting literature for children, and introduce boys and girls to the vast legacy of Russian and foreign classics as well as works by contemporary authors. And, of course, the guests include a large, united group of avid young readers.
I am confident that this year’s event will take place in an atmosphere of creativity and mutual understanding, while its diverse programme, educational projects, engaging initiatives, and cultural events will promote the values of book culture, and inspire artistic appreciation in children. After all, despite the rapid technological advancements, books remain an essential source of knowledge, teaching kindness and nurturing the best qualities and moral values in people.”
