The discussion focused on the rapid escalation in the Middle East. Vladimir Putin and Recep Tayyip Erdogan Erdogan Recep Tayyip Erdogan Recep TayyipPresident of Türkiye condemned Israel's act of force against Iran, committed in violation of the UN Charter and other norms of international law.

Both sides expressed most serious concern over the ongoing escalation of the conflict between Iran and Israel, which has already had a significant death toll and is fraught with long-term consequences for the entire region. The two leaders called for an immediate cessation of hostilities and for the two sides to settle their differences, including those pertaining to Iran's nuclear programme, exclusively through political and diplomatic means.

It was agreed that the relevant authorities of Russia and Turkey will maintain close cooperation on the issue.

When discussing issues concerning Ukraine, Vladimir Putin expressed gratitude to the Turkish side for providing organisational support for the direct talks between Moscow and Kiev. It was noted that Russia strictly complies with the agreements reached as a result of the second round, including those concerning the return of bodies of dead service personnel and the exchange of prisoners of war.

In addition, there was an exchange of views on pressing bilateral matters, including the energy sector. This topic will be addressed during the Russian-Turkish contacts as part of the St Petersburg International Economic Forum as well as at the meeting of the Intergovernmental Commission for Trade and Economic Cooperation to be held in late June.

Recep Tayyip Erdogan extended greetings to Vladimir Putin and all Russians on the national holiday – Russia Day, celebrated on June 12.
