The message reads, in part:
“This year’s festival marks the 190th anniversary of the birth of our outstanding compatriot, the Orthodox missionary, St Nicholas of Japan. His life stands as a shining example of selfless service to the Church, to people, as well as of deep respect for the culture and unique traditions of different nations.
I would like to note that your festival, named in honour of this great spiritual ascetic and enlightener, brings together athletes from many regions of Russia and from abroad. It contributes to the harmonious development of young people by introducing them not only to sport, but also to our traditional values. The tournament also offers participants an excellent opportunity to demonstrate their abilities, meet worthy opponents, and compete for victory.
I am confident that the St Nicholas of Japan Cup will continue to foster the sports movement in Russia, encourage an active and healthy lifestyle, and strengthen international humanitarian cooperation.”
