First day of the APEC Leaders' Meeting

Dmitry Medvedev took part in the APEC Summit. The first day’s agenda included a plenary meeting of the heads of APEC member states, a meeting of APEC leaders with the APEC Business Advisory Council members, and a number of bilateral meetings.

The main issue on the agenda of the summit’s plenary meeting was the establishment of a free trade zone on APEC territory. The participants also discussed overcoming the crisis in the global economy, APEC's development issues, liberalisation of trade legislation and the prospects for the Doha Round of multilateral trade negotiations. Other issues addressed included the intensification of cooperation in the fight against terrorism, strengthening security and disaster prevention and relief within APEC.

After the plenary meeting, the Russian President met with members of the APEC Business Advisory Council. The main subjects under discussion were food and energy security in the region, as well as small business development, investment and combating protectionism.

Earlier, Dmitry Medvedev attended the signing ceremony of the Russia-China-Japan agreement to build a fertilizer plant in Mendeleyevsk, Tatarstan.
