St Ipatiy Monastery is one of Russia’s most honoured shrines. Here in 1613 Mikhail Romanov was chosen as tsar, the first of the dynasty that ruled Russia for three centuries.
St Ipatiy Monastery was first mentioned in the chronicles in 1432, but the monastery legend traces its beginnings back to the second quarter of the 14th century.
Dmitry Medvedev also visited the Convent of the Epiphany, established in 1426, where now nuns take care of older women, the disabled as well as orphans.
