President of Russia Dmitry Medvedev: Mr Berdimuhamedov, the weather is lovely; a New Year’s weather, and I want to take this opportunity to wish you a Happy New Year. I am very happy to see you.
We met fairly recently, but that was on the sidelines of other events, and it has been a long time since we’ve met in a bilateral format. I am glad it is happening now, especially since this is an important political period for our nations: both Russia and Turkmenistan will soon be holding presidential elections. I sincerely wish you every success.
And this is an excellent occasion to discuss bilateral relations, economic cooperation, and the cultural and humanitarian ties that are so important to our nations as friendly and very close partners.
Not long ago, we held the CIS summit here. We talked about the future of our Commonwealth. Turkmenistan has taken on a key position and we wish you success in your presidency in the CIS.
We also have a variety of difficult regional problems. And as neighbours and good friends, I think we can discuss all these matters.
I once again warmly welcome you to the Moscow Region in these Pre-New Year days and count on a productive discussion.
President of Turkmenistan GURBANGULY BERDIMUHAMEDOV: Thank you, Mr Medvedev. First of all, please allow me to thank you for your invitation to make a working visit to your splendid nation, the Russian Federation.
It is true that we have an opportunity today to discuss our cooperation in many areas, to talk about the current situation and our cooperation in the future.
I will use this opportunity to wish you and all the wonderful, great people of Russia a Happy New Year and wish you all the very best.
Dmitry Medvedev: Thank you very much.
