President of Russia Dmitry Medvedev: Dear Kurmanbek Salievich!
I am glad that we were able to meet to discuss the current state of Russian-Kyrgyzstan cooperation. We have a lot of interesting joint projects and with some of these we are making progress. There are other issues that we need to discuss.
Our cooperation on trade issues has been very strong: trade grew last year by 50 per cent, which is good for Russia and for Kyrgyzstan’s economy. This is a positive outcome of the work we have done.
I would like to thank you for your chairmanship of the CIS, for the mission that you are now carrying out, and for the attention you gave our proposal suggesting a new summit of heads of the CIS countries. I think in that sense everything was successful, and yesterday we had a good discussion about it.
President of Kyrgyzstan Kurmanbek Bakiev: Thank you Dmitry Anatolyevich.
First of all, I would like to once again express my sincere congratulations on your election as President of the Russian Federation and wish you success in this important role.
Russia occupies a special place in our foreign and economic policies. We have always put our relationship with the Russian Federation at the forefront. I would like to add to what you said: an important result of our relationship has been economic progress, namely the growth in trade. And what we have negotiated in recent years has already borne actual results. I mean the progress we have made on a number of joint projects. I think that the result of these will soon be evident.
Dmitry Medvedev: I am sure they will. That’s good.
