President of Russia Dmitry Medvedev: Mr President Nguyen Minh Triet, Vietnamese friends,
We have just held talks in narrow format. This was an open and friendly discussion on the different areas of cooperation between our countries, and it illustrated the good opportunities that we see ahead for this cooperation.
I last visited Vietnam 9 years ago. The country has changed vastly since then, is developing fast, and has achievements to boast in construction, economic modernisation, strengthening defence and security, and resolving social issues. The Russian Federation will help Vietnam, our close friend, in its development in all of these areas.
We reached important agreements in a broad range of areas during your visit to Russia in October 2008. I am sure that my official visit to the Socialist Republic of Vietnam now will also bring many useful results as we will sign numerous new agreements.
You visited our country this year too to take part in the 65th anniversary of Victory celebrations. This was a gesture of friendship that we appreciate very much. Other members of Vietnam’s leadership have visited Russia. General Secretary of the Vietnamese Communist Party’s Central Committee Nong Duc Manh visited Russian in July this year, and Vietnamese Prime Minister Nguyen Tan Dung visited Russia last year.
Our relations therefore really do have a lot of serious substance in a broad range of cooperation fields.
