In the course of his official visit, the President of Russia visited Rio de Janeiro, Brasilia and Fortaleza. Vladimir Putin had talks with President of Brazil Dilma Rousseff, after which a package of cooperation documents was signed.
Mr Putin also took part in the BRICS summit dedicated to political coordination and global governance problems. The meeting resulted in the approval of the Fortaleza Declaration and Action Plan. On the second day of the summit, the Russian leader took part in a meeting between BRICS leaders and the heads of South American states.
In Brasilia, Mr Putin held bilateral meetings with a number of heads of state: German Federal Chancellor Angela Merkel, President of the People’s Republic of China Xi Jinping, President of the South African Republic Jacob Zuma, Prime Minister of India Narendra Modi, President of Venezuela Nicolas Maduro, President of Bolivia Evo Morales and President of Uruguay Jose Mujica. On the sidelines of the BRICS summit Vladimir Putin also met with President of Peru Ollanta Humala, President of Chile Michelle Bachelet and President of Colombia Juan Manuel Santos.
In addition, Vladimir Putin attended the closing ceremony of the 2014 FIFA World Cup, at the end of which Russia accepted the relay to host the 2018 World Cup.
