Putin took part in the BRICS and SCO summits as head of state of the country
presiding over these organisations.
The seventh
BRICS summit focused on political coordination and global governance, ensuring
sustainable development, and avenues for expanding cooperation within the group.
The BRICS leaders adopted a package of documents, including the Ufa
Declaration, the Ufa Action Plan, and the BRICS Strategic Economic Partnership.
Mr Putin also met with trade union leaders from the BRICS
countries, and members of the BRICS Business Council.
The Shanghai Cooperation Organisation Council of Heads of State also adopted a solid package of agreements, including the SCO Development Strategy through to 2025, and launched the procedure for India and Pakistan’s accession to the organisation.
Mr Putin had a number of bilateral meetings with
foreign leaders on the sidelines of the two summits. The President met with President
of China Xi Jinping, President of Tajikistan Emomali Rahmon, Prime Minister of India
Narendra Modi, President of South Africa Jacob Zuma, President of Belarus
Alexander Lukashenko, President of Brazil Dilma Rousseff, President of Iran
Hassan Rouhani, President of Mongolia Tsakhiagiin Elbegdorj, President of Kazakhstan Nursultan Nazarbayev, President of Uzbekistan Islam Karimov,
President of Afghanistan Ashraf Ghani, and Prime Minister of Pakistan Nawaz
Sharif.
