The working group meeting was attended by heads of Russian regions and their deputies who are in charge of environmental issues, as well as representatives of relevant federal executive bodies, research and expert organisations.
In his remarks, Gleb Nikitin stressed that it is necessary to analyse the implementation of each project that is part of the Environment national project while taking into account the specifics of environmental issues in different regions.
Based on that, the working group set up subgroups led by the heads of Russian regions that will oversee such areas as solid communal waste disposal, reducing air pollution, improving the quality of drinking water, environmental remediation of water bodies, implementation of the best available technology, preserving biological diversity, environmental tourism, and forest regeneration.
The meeting participants discussed the concept for a working group report to be presented at a State Council Presidium meeting on environmental issues. The draft report will be prepared for discussion at the working group’s next meeting in March 2019.
