The joint meeting focused on formulating a programme for the development of the electric power industry in the Far Eastern Federal District for the period until 2050.
The meeting was attended by Minister for the Development of the Far East and Arctic Alexei Chekunkov, Magadan Region Governor Sergei Nosov, Trans-Baikal Territory Governor Alexander Osipov, Head of the Donetsk People’s Republic Denis Pushilin, Deputy Energy Minister Pavel Snikkars, as well as representatives of the Coordination Council under the Civic Chamber for National Projects and Population Preservation, relevant federal and regional executive authorities, System Operator of the Unified Energy System, the NP Market Council Association, Rosatom State Atomic Energy Corporation, RusHydro, VEB.RF, and other interested organisations.
In his opening remarks, Igor Levitin noted that the programme for the development of the electric power industry, in accordance with the Presidential instructions issued following the 2023 Eastern Economic Forum, should be designed to maximise the economic potential of the regions in the Far Eastern Federal District and be closely aligned with the draft national projects.
Sergei Tsivilev emphasised that the increase in production output in the Far East surpassed the national average, and there was already a shortage of energy system capacities.
Representatives of the Coordination Council under the Civic Chamber for National Projects and Population Preservation suggested drawing on the historical experience of implementing major infrastructure projects in the country in 1929–1955 when devising the programme for the development of the electric power industry in the Far Eastern Federal District.
The meeting participants noted the need to utilise a comprehensive interagency approach to strategic planning with regard to the regions’ economic interests, as well as new funding mechanisms for major projects related to the development of electric power infrastructure. They also made some suggestions that will be forwarded for review to interested federal executive bodies and used in the preparation of a report to the President on the progress in implementing his instructions.
