The First Lady noted that the artist’s name personifies the spiritual richness of Russian culture and the wonderful traditions of Russia’s school of painting.
Accompanied by Ilya Glazunov, Svetlana Medvedeva toured the gallery to see the artist’s works. Mr Glazunov showed his early works, including the paintings devoted to St Petersburg, and guided Ms Medvedeva through the hall featuring his illustrations to the works by Fyodor Dostoyevsky.
The First Lady also visited the photograph hall featuring images of Gina Lollobrigida, posing for the artist, snapshots of Ilya Glazunov’s meetings with Vladimir Putin, Patriarch Alexei II [of Moscow and All Russia], King Juan Carlos I of Spain, Pierre Cardin, and Mireille Mathieu.
At the end of the meeting, Svetlana Medvedeva thanked Ilya Glazunov for his interesting narration and left a note in the gallery’s guestbook: “Thank you for your input into Russian and global culture.”
