Speaking at the event, the First Lady noted that the New Year holiday will be followed by Orthodox Christmas, a holiday “filled with special spiritual joy,” read the children Christmas poems, and wished them much happiness, smiles and laughter.
The children watched a puppet show and took part in entertaining games and competitions.
Ms Medvedeva awarded prizes to the competition winners, but no one was left empty-handed: all of the children received presents, and presents will be sent too to children who were unable to come to Moscow for the event.
The First Lady also received a gift – an icon of the Holy Virgin of Korsun made by children living at the Otrada orphanage in Maloyaroslavets.
The event was attended by children from Moscow and Smolensk, as well as from Moscow and Kaluga Regions.
