The participants are also expected to discuss plans and prospects for the Society’s development over the coming years, in particular the launch of new projects such as the Russian Geographical Society festival and prize, and also the presentation and launch of a new digital television channel – IQ HD.
RGS awards will be presented to outstanding scientists and international public figures, and new members of the Board of Trustees will receive certificates. Mr Putin will present certificates awarding grants for 2014.
Those taking part in the meeting will include the members of the RGS Board of Trustees and Media Council, the heads of federal ministries and agencies, prominent Russian geographers, researchers and other guests.
The RGS currently has around 13,000 members in Russia and abroad. The Society plans to open regional sections this year in the Republic of Crimea and Sevastopol.
