Vladimir Putin will host a reception at the Kremlin on July 28. Members of the Russian Orthodox clergy, state officials and public figures will attend.
The Russian Orthodox Church sees the works of Prince Vladimir, who baptised the people of Rus into Christianity, as equivalent to the works of the apostles of Christ. In the late 13th and early 14th centuries, Prince Vladimir was made a saint equal to the apostles by the Russian Orthodox Church.
The celebration in his honour is taking place on the day marking the baptism of Rus.
