On March 29, the President will visit Alexandra Land in the Franz Josef Archipelago, where he will inspect the results of work to clean up environmental damage in the Russian Arctic zone. This work was carried out following instructions the President gave during a previous visit to the island in April 2010.
The President will also meet with field base personnel at the Russian Arctic National Park’s Omega, and will hear from them on work to clean up the archipelago’s six biggest islands, protect the region’s biodiversity, and develop tourism.
On March 30, Mr Putin will take part in the sixth Arctic: Territory of Dialogue International Forum. The forum’s main theme this year is People and the Arctic.
The President will address the Forum’s plenary session, which will be attended by invited foreign delegations, and representatives of international organisations and the business and expert communities. Discussions will focus, in particular, on raising the quality of life for people in the Arctic region, protecting the unique environmental potential, ensuring sustainable socioeconomic development of polar territories, and strengthening international cooperation in this aim.
The President will also meet with President of Iceland Gudni Johannesson and President of Finland Sauli Niinistö, who will also take part in the Forum.
