On February 7, the 2018 Presidential Prize in Science and Innovation for Young Scientists will be awarded at the Kremlin

Announcement, February 7, 2019

Established in 2008, the annual prize will be awarded to young scientists and professionals for the tenth time this year. The prize is awarded for contributions to advancing Russian science, for creating new equipment and technology that can boost the innovative development of the economy and social sphere, as well as for strengthening national defence.

The prize will be presented to the following individuals: Yevgeny Gorlov and Viktor Zharkov, research associates at the Zuyev Institute of Atmospheric Optics of the Siberian Branch of the Russian Academy of Sciences, for the development and use of a new technology for the remote detection of explosives; Yekaterina Grizanova, a lead researcher at Novosibirsk State Agrarian University, for discovering previously unknown mechanisms of agriculture and forest insect pest resistance to bioinsecticides; Vyacheslav Dyachuk, a senior researcher at the Zhirmunsky National Scientific Centre for Marine Biology, Far Eastern Branch of the Russian Academy of Sciences, for discovering previously unknown mechanisms underlying the development of invertebrate and vertebrate nervous systems; and Ivan Oseledets, an associate professor at the Skolkovo Institute of Science and Technology, for creating breakthrough computing technologies for solving multidimensional problems in physics, chemistry, biology and data analysis.
