Vladimir Komlev, 35, PhD, senior researcher at the Baikov Institute of Metallurgy and Materials Science of Russian Academy of Sciences, was awarded the prize for research on biocompatible ceramic and composite materials as a new medical technology to be used in bone tissue engineering.
Vladimir Komlev designed materials with a wide range of features intended for application in various medical fields. Pilot production of some of such materials has already been launched; the materials are used in outpatient and clinical practice in oral and maxillofacial surgery and in the treatment of malignant tumours.
