On March 23, 2003, a referendum was held in the Republic of Chechnya on the draft constitution of the Chechen Republic and draft laws on elections for president and parliament of the Chechen Republic.
According to the final report of the Central Election Commission of Russia, 95.97% of the Chechens who went to the polls expressed their support for the basic law, with 95.4% saying “yes” to the law on the election of president, and 96.05%, to the law on election to parliament.
The turnout was 89.48%.
