The discussion focused on the social and economic situation in the region. In particular, Governor Berg reported to the President on the development of agriculture and industry in Orenburg Region.
The Governor said the region is not only self-sufficient in terms of agricultural produce, but also supplies it to other Russian regions. In addition, Mr Berg invited the President to attend the opening of a vegetable oil extracting plant. The region is also launching a meat processing facility jointly with an Italian company.
Speaking of industrial production, the Governor mentioned the drilling equipment plant, saying that the products which used to be imported from Canada will now be manufactured locally. Mr Berg also mentioned the construction of an electroslag remelting furnace at the local machine building plant. “This is a step forward in metallurgy, especially important for the processing industry,” the Governor said.
Regarding cultural developments, the Governor singled out the project implemented jointly with Denis Matsuyev [piano player and public figure], which involves buying musical instruments, particularly grand pianos, for recreation centres in remote areas of Orenburg Region. The Governor also drew the President’s attention to the new children’s health and education centre that has opened in the region.
