Visit to Adler checkpoint on the border with Abkhazia

Vladimir Putin and President of Abkhazia Alexander Ankvab witness the signing by Acting Transport Minister of Russia Igor Levitin (right) and Minister of the Economy of Abkhazia David Iradyan of the Protocol to the Agreement between the Governments of Russia and Abkhazia on organising direct international railway service.

The new border crossing has all of the necessary equipment for carrying out customs and border formalities for freight and passengers.

Director of Russia’s Border Guard Service Vladimir Pronichev told Mr Putin and Mr Ankvab Ankvab Alexander Ankvab Alexander about the checkpoint’s construction, noting that its daily capacity will be 4,000 people, 1,250 cars, 100 buses, and 150 trucks. The checkpoint has been organised to function in reverse regime too in order to increase the throughput capacity on either side, if needed.

While at the checkpoint, Mr Putin and Mr Ankvab witnessed the signing by Acting Transport Minister of Russia Igor Levitin Levitin Igor Levitin IgorAide to the President and Minister of the Economy of Abkhazia David Iradyan of the Protocol to the Agreement between the Governments of Russia and Abkhazia on organising direct international railway service.
