This year, the remains of 387 Red Army soldiers were found near the village of Yesyomovo during the excavation work carried out from April 17 to April 29. Also, 34 medallions were found, and 15 of them were identified.
The expedition’s closing ceremony was attended by Governor of the Tver Region Igor Rudenya, State Secretary of the Union State of Russia and Belarus Dmitry Mezentsev, Deputy Minister of Culture of Russia Olga Yarilova, Deputy Chairman of the Volunteer Society for Cooperation with the Army, Aviation and Navy (DOSAAF Russia) Nikolai Staskov, and Bishop Adrian of Rzhev and Toropets.
The ceremony took place at the Rzhev Memorial to the Soviet Soldier, unveiled in June 2020 in the presence of Vladimir Putin and President of the Republic of Belarus Alexander Lukashenko. More than 700,000 people have visited the memorial since its opening.
