Speech by Presidential Adviser on Climate Change Alexander Bedritsky at the 17th conference of the parties to the UN Framework Convention on Climate Change and the 7th conference of the parties to the Kyoto Protocol.

The conference of the parties to the UN Framework Convention on Climate Change and the conference of the parties to the Kyoto Protocol took place on November 28-December 9, 2011, in Durban, South Africa.

Presidential Adviser and Special Presidential Envoy on Climate Change Alexander Bedritsky Bedritsky Alexander Bedritsky Alexander , the head of the Russian delegation, addressed the conferences’ summit meeting.

Mr Bedritsky stressed Russia’s commitment to achieving universal and comprehensive climate regulation and sees the ultimate goal of negotiations as being to produce a single universal agreement on climate change for the post-2012 period, an agreement that would cover all countries, developed and developing, and above all those who count among the biggest greenhouse gas producers.

Mr Bedritsky said that after 2012, Russia will begin carrying out its declared obligations to reduce manmade emissions by 15–25 percent below 1990 levels by 2020, and will continue at the same time the efforts to reach a global agreement.
