The meeting was attended by Head of the Federal Agency for Ethnic Affairs of Russia Igor Barinov, Chelyabinsk Region Governor Alexei Teksler, Tyumen Region Governor Alexander Moor, Kurgan Region Governor Vadim Shumkov, Khanty-Mansi Autonomous Area Governor Natalya Komarova, member of the Presidential Council for Interethnic Relations Presidium and Chairman of the Public Chamber Commission on Harmonisation of Interethnic and Interreligious Relations Vladimir Zorin, representatives of federal and regional governments, the region’s municipalities, and the scientific and expert communities.
Speaking at the meeting, Magomedsalam Magomedov noted that the special military operation in Ukraine has brought to the fore multiple tasks that are part of the state’s ethnic policy. He emphasised that the unprecedented rallying of the multi-ethnic Russian people is a response to the challenges of the “cancelling Russia policy.” The latest polls show that the percent of people who positively assess the state of interethnic relations in their localities has increased by 4.4 percent to 80.7 percent.
Magomedsalam Magomedov pointed out that the ethnic and cultural associations of our country, both federal and regional, are demonstrating unity in actions as they join in activities to provide information support for the President’s decisions, to provide humanitarian assistance to the people of the Donetsk and Lugansk people's republics, and the newly liberated Ukrainian territories.
Following the reports on state ethnic policy in the regions, Magomedsalam Magomedov and Vladimir Yakushev addressed specific pressing issues, focusing particularly on the importance of consolidating the unity of the Russian nation, reducing conflict potential among migrants, and preserving ethnocultural and linguistic diversity through holding the Year of Cultural Heritage of the Peoples of Russia events.
As is customary, matters related to the indigenous peoples of the North, who enjoy special treatment in the Russian Federation, are successfully taken care of in the region. This has become particularly important in connection with the intensive development of the Arctic zone.
Following the meeting, corresponding resolutions were adopted.
During the trip, Magomedsalam Magomedov had a working meeting with Chelyabinsk Region Governor Alexei Teksler to discuss socioeconomic and interethnic issues in the region.
