During the meeting with South Ossetia's President Eduard Kokoity, Sergei Naryshkin stressed that Russia values its allied relations with South Ossetia and appreciates the dynamic development of cooperation in all areas: politics, the economy and humanitarian sphere.
The Chief of Staff took part in the plenary session of the First Russian-South Ossetian Business Forum. At the forum, agreements were signed between the Russian and South Ossetian chambers of commerce, as well as agreements on cooperation in agriculture, information technology, tourism and projects supervised by the Regional Development Ministry.
Mr Naryshkin presented state decorations to Russian citizens in South Ossetia who have made a significant contribution to strengthening Russian-South Ossetian ties.
At the parade held in honour of South Ossetia’s Independence Day, Sergei Naryshkin read out a message of congratulations which President of Russia Dmitry Medvedev sent to the President of South Ossetia. Together with Eduard Kokoity, Sergei Naryshkin laid a wreath at the memorial to those killed fighting for the republic’s independence, and paid tribute to Russian peacekeepers killed while repelling the Georgian aggression in August 2008.
The Chief of Staff inspected the special equipment of South Ossetia’s Emergency Ministry and the newly-built fire station, attended the opening of the water station with drinking water for Tskhinval and handed over keys to new flats to the city’s residents who had lost their homes in August 2008.
