The Federal Law will improve Russian legislation with regard to ensuring greater protection of Russian passports outside Russia.
In accordance with the amendments, electronically stored information in passports that Russian citizens use to certify their identity when abroad, will now contain additional biometric data on the individual (an electronic image of two fingerprints).
The scanned fingerprint images will be stored only on the electronic chip in the passport and once the passport has been issued will be deleted from the information systems concerned.
