Progress in cooperation between Russia and the EU is possible by increasing the potential of trust in one another, said President Vladimir Putin in a speech at the summit.
For this, specific, flexible and effective dialogue is required at all levels, aimed towards achieving practical results, and finding real solutions to problems that hinder successful cooperation.
The set of documents passed at the summit reflects the aspiration to strengthen the legal agreement base between Russia and the European Union, the Russian President noted.
As a result of the summit, the leaders of Russia and the European Union instructed a special expert group to continue work on finding paths of mutual simplification of procedures for issuing visas, and to coordinate conditions to move in future to a visa-free regime of travel for citizens of Russia and the EU.
The “Kaliningrad” theme was discussed further. After the decision was passed on passenger transit between the Kaliningrad Oblast and the remaining territory of Russia, it remains to insure that the European Union fulfills other elements of the agreement on Kaliningrad that was passed in 2002.
