At his room in the Hotel Westin, the President met with Senate Speaker Gildas Molgat and Speaker of the House of Commons Gilbert Parent, and then with a representative of the Canadian parliamentary opposition, Stockwell Day.
Mr Putin and Mr Molgat talked mostly about the development of inter-parliamentary contacts. The Canadian side was also interested in the reforms in Russia and Russia’s approaches to the ABM problem.
Mr Putin and Mr Parent discussed parliamentary cooperation and cultural exchanges.
In his conversation with Mr Day, the President expressed hope that the Canadian parliamentary opposition would support the development of relations with Russia.
