The President gave the conductor an illustrated biography of Ludwig van Beethoven, edited by the suppliers of His Imperial Majesty, association M.O.Wolf in 1909, as a present.
Earlier on, the head of state had sent a congratulatory message to the musician.
The congratulatory telegram reads, in part: ”As a musician and conductor with a truly phenomenal talent, your incomparable skill has conquered the best stages of the world. You are rightly considered to be worthy of Russian culture, a personality of a truly colossal scale, and a beneficiary of unique creative energy”.
