April 9, 2008
14:30
Moscow
At the Russian Emergency Situations Ministry\'s National Crisis Situation Management Centre.
With Minister for Civil Defence, Emergency Situations and Disaster Relief Sergei Shoigu.

Together with Minister for Civil Defence, Emergency Situations and Disaster Relief Sergei Shoigu and First Deputy Prime Minister Sergei Ivanov, Mr Putin inspected the centre and learned about the possibilities it offers. The President listened to reports from various parts of the country about the situation with spring floods and fire hazard sites.

The national centre’s new building is a new generation smart multilevel management complex enabling inter-agency coordination, operational management and rapid reaction, prevention and relief work in emergency situations. The centre’s state-of-the-art technology processes all types of information in real time using global satellite navigation systems. Global monitoring technology using remote space-based probes is also used.

The President watched a demonstration of a video system that displays meteorological data, data from tsunami early warning systems, and information on the situation at nuclear industry sites and their surrounding territory. A second video system displays data from the comprehensive national system for informing and warning the public in places where large numbers of people gather.

The centre is equipped with the latest programmes for information collection, analysis and display and with emergency communication channels to disaster areas.

After visiting the centre, Mr Putin spoke with Mr Shoigu.
