The centre will be established at the Kurchatov Institute Russian Research Centre. Its objectives are to accelerate the use of scientific research in production, carry out a full innovative research and development cycle in priority areas for scientific and technological development, and coordinate scientific work on implementing the Nanotechnology Industry Strategy presidential initiative.
Over the 65 years since its founding, the Kurchatov Institute has played a key part in ensuring Russia’s development and security, including through its work on developing and designing nuclear weapons, the country’s fleet of nuclear-powered ships and submarines, and the nuclear power industry.
The Institute is currently also working on nanotechnology, thermonuclear energy, nuclear terrorism prevention, and nuclear medicine.
