On behalf of the Russian President, Mr Ivanov laid a wreath at the Wall of Death, where thousands of Auschwitz prisoners were executed.
Russia’s delegation included Great Patriotic War veterans who took part in liberating Auschwitz, former Auschwitz prisoners, and representatives of religious denominations and public organisations.
More than 40 countries took part in the commemorative events. The heads of delegations lit candles before the memorial to the concentration camp’s victims. The memorial comprises 23 memorial plaques with texts in different languages.
Later, Mr Ivanov answered journalists’ questions, commenting, in particular, on the situation in Ukraine and the upcoming celebrations of the 70th anniversary of victory in the 1941–1945 Great Patriotic War.
