The participants discussed in detail implementation of the Minsk Agreements aimed at settling the conflict in southeast Ukraine, taking into account the Normandy format telephone contacts and new consultations scheduled to take place soon.
The Security Council members resolutely condemned the latest barbaric killings of Egyptian Christians in Libya by the Islamic State terrorists. The meeting participants expressed their profound condolences to President of Egypt Abdel Fattah el-Sisi and to the entire Egyptian nation. The Security Council members expressed particular concern over the expansion of the Islamic State’s terrorist activity and Islamic extremism in general.
A number of Russian domestic matters were also on the agenda.
Taking part in the meeting were Prime Minister Dmitry Medvedev, Federation Council Speaker Valentina Matviyenko, Chief of Staff of the Presidential Executive Office Sergei Ivanov, Secretary of the Security Council Nikolai Patrushev, Foreign Minister Sergei Lavrov, Interior Minister Vladimir Kolokoltsev, Director of the Federal Security Service Alexander Bortnikov, Deputy Secretary of the Security Council Rashid Nurgaliyev, Director of the Foreign Intelligence Service Mikhail Fradkov and permanent member of the Security Council Boris Gryzlov.
