Congratulations to President of Belarus Alexander Lukashenko

Dmitry Medvedev congratulated President of the Republic of Belarus Alexander Lukashenko on the country’s national holiday, Independence Day.

July 3, 2011
15:00

The message reads, in part:

“I congratulate you on the Republic of Belarus’ national holiday, Independence Day. I also express my sincere congratulations on the special date that falls on this same day – Belarus’ liberation from the Nazi occupation.

Our peoples’ centuries-old traditions of friendship and mutual support and their historical unity form a solid foundation for building the relations between our countries today. The main direction of our common efforts is to continue strengthening our integration cooperation and make our trade and economic relations more effective. Establishing the Customs Union and the Common Economic Space between Belarus, Kazakhstan and Russia without question marks a major milestone on this road.

I hope that deepening our cooperation will help Belarus to grow and develop by carrying out much needed social and economic transformation, strengthening its democratic institutions, and respecting human rights and freedoms.

It is my conviction that this is in the interests of both countries and will help to guarantee stability and security on the European continent.”
