Sergei Ivanov met Li Zhanshu in front of the entrance to the museum and the main monument to Victory, a stele with bronze bas-reliefs and a statue of Nike, the goddess of victory. The director of the complex gave a tour to the two politicians, recounting the history of each exhibition.
Sergei Ivanov and Li Zhanshu visited the Hall of Remembrance and Sorrow, which perpetuates the memory of all those killed or missing during the years of the war. In addition, the two department heads stopped at the internationally themed Battle of Wuhan exhibit, dedicated to the 1938 battle in the Chinese people’s struggle against Japan and the aid provided by the USSR in the fight against militaristic Japan.
At the end of the tour, Sergei Ivanov and Li Zhanshu visited the Hall of Glory, dedicated to the heroism of the soldiers, officers and generals of the Red Army. The names of 11,695 of the best soldiers awarded the title of Hero of the Soviet Union are memorialised on 72 marble towers.
Sergei Ivanov and Li Zhanshu laid flowers at the monument in this hall – a statue of a victorious soldier – and the Chinese guest made an inscription in the honoured guest book.
