The message reads, in part:
“Vladimir Petrov, an outstanding hockey player, two-time Olympic champion, and the pride and glory of Russian sport, has passed away. He was endlessly devoted to his favourite activity, his team and the Fatherland. He always gave his all on the ice – and won.”
Vladimir Petrov, a nine-time world champion and two-time Olympic champion with the USSR national ice hockey team, died in Moscow at the age of 69.
