The President congratulated Mr Kalyagin on his 75th birthday and on the award of the Order for Services to the Fatherland II degree.
Mr Putin presented him with a dinner set with quotations from classic works by Russian writers and poets, and a book about the first Russian expedition to Brazil, a gift inspired by one of Mr Kalyagin’s most famous roles in a film based on the play Charley’s Aunt by Brandon Thomas.
Earlier, the President sent Mr Kalyagin a telegram congratulating him on his birthday.
