In his opening remarks, Magomedsalam Magomedov noted that the general situation in the North Caucasus Federal District in the sphere of interethnic relations corresponds to that in Russia and is steadily improving.
Mr Magomedov drew the attention of the participants to the importance of strengthening the unity of the multi-ethnic nation of the Russian Federation, as well as ensuring balanced internal migration, creating proper conditions for harmonising interethnic relations, countering new radical ideological developments, and pursuing an effective language policy in the regions that are part of this federal district.
The Deputy Chief of Staff of the Presidential Executive Office underscored the importance of the speedy introduction of a system for monitoring interethnic and inter-religious relations and an early warning system for conflict situations developed by the Federal Agency for Ethnic Affairs in the municipal entities located in the North Caucasus Federal District.
Head of the Federal Agency for Ethnic Affairs Igor Barinov, members of the Presidential Council for Interethnic Relations Aslanbek Paskachev, Iosif Diskin and Genrikh Martens, Head of the Department of the Prosecutor General's Office in the North Caucasus Federal District Alexander Semenov, officials from Daghestan, Kabardino-Balkaria and North Ossetia-Alania, and representatives of local self-government bodies delivered reports during the seminar.
