The two leaders discussed the results of the Syrian National Dialogue Congress, which was held in Sochi on January 30. They pointed out that the decisions taken in Sochi are designed to boost a political settlement in Syria based on UN Security Council Resolution 2254 and help normalise the situation in the region overall.
The presidents praised the effective cooperation between Russia, Iran and Turkey within the Astana format and expressed readiness to continue working to further improve this format and to add new concrete issues to its agenda.
They also spoke about the Yemeni crisis and ways to settle the Palestinian issue.
Mr Putin and Mr Rouhani confirmed their commitment to the implementation of the Joint Comprehensive Plan of Action on Iran’s nuclear programme as a major factor of international stability and security.
They exchanged opinions on current issues of bilateral cooperation in a number of areas and agreed to maintain contacts at various levels.
