The message reads, in part:
“This ancient festival, which came from the depths of the centuries, symbolises respect for the productive work of the tillers, is an important, integral part of our cultural DNA, our rich historical and spiritual heritage. It is widely and lovingly marked by representatives of various ethnic groups in many regions of Russia who pay tribute to the traditions and customs of their ancestors.
Like centuries ago, Sabantuy brings people together; they take time to prepare for it, and on the day of the feast, folk festivals are organised in cities and villages, along with sports events, concerts, games and contests.
Here, in Tatarstan, which is the centre of celebrations, there is a special atmosphere of joy, openness, hospitality, and sincere and friendly human contact. I am sure that everyone will find something to their liking in the packed and varied Sabantuy programme, and will take pleasure in tasting the wonderful dishes of local cuisine.”
