In his remarks, the President said that social support measures for veterans remain a top priority in this year, which will see Russia celebrate the 65th anniversary of victory in the Great Patriotic War.
Mr Medvedev said that he has signed an executive order on one-off anniversary payments to veterans, war widows, former inmates of Nazi concentration camps, and several other groups. Draft laws are also ready now on providing housing to all veterans in need, as is a draft executive order on free transport for veterans throughout all of Russia for the duration of the celebration period.
The President said that regional authorities must provide targeted support for veterans based on the specific conditions in the places where they live. The local authorities also bear responsibility for looking after memorials to fallen soldiers and military burial sites.
Taking part in the videoconference were Health and Social Development Minister Tatyana Golikova, Regional Development Minister Viktor Basargin, and a number of regional governors and plenipotentiary presidential envoys to the federal districts.
